Synopsis
Mythic Play
The Nine-Tailed Fox Spirit
On the top of Green Rock Mountain lived an one thousand year old nine-tailed fox spirit. One day she changed herselfinto a beautiful young woman and beguiled Zhou Conglun, a young scholar. In order to savehis master, Zhou’s page boy asks Wang Banxian to capturethis daemon. Instead of capturingthe fox spirit, however, Wang is tricked by her. Wang then seeks the help of Guan Gong, Guan Ping and Zhou Cang andtheir immortal allies. After a fierce battle theycapture the fox spirit.

The immortal White Snake and her maidservan, the Blue Snake are turned into beautiful women, and coming back to earth they set up house together in Hangzhou. There they met a young man Named Xu Xian, with whom White Snake falls in love and Marries. However, their marriage is thwarted when a Buddhist abbot warns Xu Xian that his wife is actually a snake and gives him a preparation for her to drink which will change her into her former, and acyual, self. But when Xu Xian sees her in her original form, he dies form fear. To save Xu Xian, the White Snake goes to heaven and, overcoming great difficulties, brings back a medicinal herb to reatore him to life.

The Monkey King Havoc in Imperial Stables

Stealing the Official Seal
Jiao Guangpu, the son of the famous Song dynasty general Jiao Zan, became trapped in barbarian territory after a fierce battle. Because he lacked an official seal that would allow him to travel through the mountain pass and back to hishome, he decided to bide his time, set up an innnear the barbarian-Chinese border, and waitfor an opportunity to return to his homeland. At this time, Yang Bajie of the famous Yang family, receives orders to disguise herself as a man and undertake a reconnaissance mission inbarbarian territory. When she passes Jiao’s inn, he notices that she has an official seal tied to her waist. Hoping that he might be able to steal the seal from her, Jiao entreats Yang to take her rest at his inn. As Jiao tries to steal Yang’s seal, he discovers that she is actually a woman. After a fight, they reveal their true identities to each other and Jiao, now disguised as Yang’s page, returns to China and his home.

The Crossroads: Fighting in the Dark
Sung dynasty general Jian Zan, has been unjustly convicted and sentenced to exile. A young officer named Ren Tanghui is secretly ordered to follow and protect him. They arrive at an inn at the junction of three roads. The innkeeper mistakenly thinks that Ren Ta ghui is involved I the plot to harm Jiao. After Ren has fallen asleep, the innkeeper stealthily enters the room in the dark. His growing noise awakens Ren and a fierce struggle ensues. The confusion increases until Jian Zan enters with a light and the whole misunderstanding is cleared up. This is a rollicking, joyous piece of drama, based on an ancient Chinese folktale and features scintillating martial arts and acrobatics.

Capturing Zhang Sanlang Alive
Yan Xijiao, the great hero Song Jiang’s wife, was having an affair with Song’s disciple Zhang Sanlang. After intercepting a letter that linked Song Jiang to the leaders of an anti-dynastic rebellion based on Mt. Liang, Yan demands a divorce from Song so that she may marry Zhang. Instead of divorcing her, however, Song murders her.But even in death, Yan is unable to forget her love for Zhang. Thus, in the dark of night Yan, now a ghost, visits Zhang in order to relive their old passion; at the end of their reunion Yan takes Zhang away with her to the underworld.
